Poem: She says!

Grand staircase
Stands front of me
Goes all the way
All the way to the top
I stare in awe and
Wait in anticipation.

Something for the road
She says!
Mother, I am going to work
Down the road
There are cafes
There are restaurants
There are places
Beyond home.
Something for the road
She says!
She … repeats.

Come up! A voice call me from the top floor
I rush the steps and nearly stumble.
Come up! Is it a voice in m head or someone
Called me?
I rush the steps and nearly stumble
No! I fall
I fall back like a ball
I fall
Back like
Like a ball
Rounded at the bottom
At the bottom of the stairs
I sit in awe and stare.

Something for the road
She says.
I wish I had her comforting food
Now!
