Chasing numbers

A new blog entry arrives at one in the morning
After twenty cups of coffee and eyes floating
In red tears.

Another check on the views count, visitors
And last comments, like an addict checking
His soup!

He can’t sleep, it is too close to a record break
He can’t let go before scoring the numbers
But what are they for?

A question comes from nowhere stunts him
Into a prolonged lonely stare, the empty wall
Vanishes before his red eyes.

The deductive records the cause of death
A suicide, another sorry case but his friends
Blame the unholy question.

What are they all for in the most lonely
The most connected but not related world
An era of floating red eyes.
