A difference

(for runaways)

There is a difference dear
She said
Between cheating and
For fun having an affair
One requires lying
And destroying my soul
The other requires
Your soul shredded slowly
In name of modernity
And truthfulness
Doesn’t honestly count for something?

I agree
One destroys trust
The other destroys a person
I agree
And agree
To walk away,
Which I should have done
All those years ago
When I was teenager
With a fantasy
Of running away.

Our childish instincts
Are often true, shame
We don’t consult
Them often.

But there is a difference…
