Passion in the Time of Numbness

What are you passionate about?

The question startled me. We were half an hour in our journey. The train carriage was empty. We exchanged curtsey nodes and hellos . She was reading Love in the Time of Cholera, which I thought odd for a girl in her age and with her looks. I was reading Kafka’s biography and hating it!

She was pretty enough for me to wanting to chat her up, but I wasn’t prepared for her question.
