He may leave!

She worries
He may leave
She leaves
She wonders
The mountains
He stays
He looks after the children
The abandoned children
Of days, past
He tells them a story
A few stories in fact
Of times passed
When a mother was confident
And happy
Of a man who adored her
Of moments adorned
With their love
A simple love
And a moment
When she feared.

She worries
He may leave
She leaves
She wonders
The mountains
She forgets
The mountains end
And cease to exist
The beautiful roads rust
And decay with the ageing scenery
The winter sits in
And give her its coat of snow
She remains alone.

The children are in their spring
He forgets
They forget
There is a picture of a mother
Once she was
She fears
He may leave
He has left
And she remained in
The frozen image
Of once to be.
